Diesel Performance & Reliability
The upgrades worth paying for on a working truck are the ones that make it more dependable under load. We work within what the law allows and keep the emissions system intact.
Performance, for a truck that works
For most of the people who call us, performance does not mean a dyno number. It means the truck pulls the trailer up the grade without heat-soaking, starts on a cold morning, and keeps doing it next year. That is reliability, and on a working diesel it is where money is best spent.
It is also why we do not publish packages. What is worth doing depends on the engine, the miles, the warranty, and what the truck actually does for a living — and the honest answer for a daily-driven half-ton is not the answer for something that tows heavy every week.
The kinds of work this covers
- Intake and airflow — including aftermarket intake horns and manifold-side upgrades on the platforms where they matter
- Charge air and intercoolers — piping, boots, and cooling capacity, which is where most "it lost power towing" complaints actually end up
- Fuel supply and filtration — supply-side upgrades and filtration finer than the factory rating, because fuel is what lubricates a modern high-pressure pump
- Reliability upgrades — the preventive work that addresses known weak points on common diesel platforms before they become failures
- Towing and load durability — cooling, driveline, and the parts that decide whether a truck is comfortable loaded or merely capable of it
- Fuel capacity — range for vehicles that lose working hours to fuel stops
Some of these are regulated areas on a commercial vehicle, and all of them depend on the specific truck. We scope them per vehicle rather than off a menu.
Reliability beats horsepower on a truck that earns
The most valuable work we do in this category is preventive. Most diesel platforms have a small number of well-documented weak points, and addressing one before it lets go is the difference between a planned repair and a destroyed engine. That is unglamorous compared with a power figure, and it is worth considerably more.
Which weak points apply to your truck depends entirely on the platform and its history. Our Cummins, Power Stroke, and Duramax pages cover what we see on each, and diagnostics is where any of it should start — measuring before anything gets replaced or upgraded.
What we don't do
- Chasing a power number at the expense of the parts that have to survive it
- Open-ended custom builds and restoration — see service options for what we do take on
We would rather turn down work than fit something that puts a truck out of service at its next inspection. On a commercial vehicle that is not a philosophical position — it is the difference between a truck that earns and one that sits.

Talk to us about the specific truck
There is no single right answer to any of this, which is why there is no parts list on this page. Call 512-717-2777 with the truck and what you are trying to achieve, and we will tell you what is worth doing, what is not, and what we would leave alone. 2900 N FM 973, Austin, TX 78725, serving the Greater Austin Area (Travis, Bastrop, Williamson, Hays).
Common questions
What does performance work mean here?
Mostly reliability. On a truck that works for a living, the upgrades worth paying for are the ones that make it more dependable under load rather than the ones that produce a number on a dyno sheet. A truck that tows without heat-soaking and starts on a cold morning is worth more than one with a bigger claim attached to it.
What kinds of upgrades do you handle?
Broadly: intake and airflow, charge-air and intercooler work, fuel supply and filtration, and the reliability upgrades that address known weak points on common diesel platforms. What makes sense varies enormously by engine, mileage, warranty status, and what the truck actually does, so we scope it per vehicle rather than selling packages.
Can you recommend something for my truck?
Yes, but not over a web page. The right answer depends on the platform, the miles, whether it is under warranty, and what you are trying to achieve — towing drivability and outright power are different requests with different answers. Call us with the truck and what you want from it and we will tell you what is worth doing and what we would leave alone.
Will this void my warranty?
It depends on the part, the vehicle, and who holds the warranty, and anyone answering that with a flat yes or no is guessing. We will tell you what a given modification touches before it is fitted so you can decide with the facts in front of you. If you are inside a powertrain warranty, we will usually tell you to leave it alone.
Do you work on performance for commercial and fleet vehicles too?
The reliability side, yes — anything that reduces downtime on a vehicle that has to earn. For fleets the conversation is usually about durability and cost per mile rather than power, which is a different discussion and often a better one. See our fleet pages for how that works under an account.
