Tiffin builds the coach. We work on what moves it.

On any motorhome the coach and the chassis come from different companies, are warranted separately, and are serviced by different people. The RV dealer looks after the house it sold you and sends the engine and drivetrain work back out. That mechanical half is ours.

The diesel pushers

Allegro Bus, Phaeton, and Zephyr ride on the PowerGlide chassis platform, developed with Freightliner Custom Chassis, with Cummins power — an L9 in the Phaeton and Allegro Bus, and an X15 in the Zephyr. Chassis and engine specifications do move between model years, so we confirm from your coach and year rather than assuming.

Mechanically this is ordinary work for us: a Cummins, an Allison, air brakes, air suspension, and aftertreatment. The same diagnostics, the same air system, the same failure modes we see on commercial trucks weekly. See diesel pusher repair for the detail.

The Sprinter-based coaches

• Wayfarer — Class C on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4500XD cab chassis, 2.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel
• Cahaba — Class B on a Sprinter 2500, 144-inch wheelbase, four-wheel drive, 3.0L V6

Both are Sprinter work — and Sprinter-based coaches are exactly the vehicles whose owners struggle most to find a shop, because Mercedes services Sprinters through a separate van dealer network and a Class C is usually taller than a standard bay door. See Sprinter RV repair.

It fits in our bays

A Class A coach commonly stands 12 to 13½ feet tall once the rooftop air conditioning is counted, and spec sheets often quote height without it. Standard automotive bays are built for 10 to 12 feet. We have the door height, the length, and lifting rated for the weight — which is the difference between getting the work done and calling around.

What we service

• Cummins diagnostics, fuel systems, injectors, turbos, and leaks
• DPF and DEF/SCR faults — worse on coaches that idle and sit
• Air brakes, air dryers, valves, and the leaks that appear after a season parked
• Air suspension and leveling
• Transmission, driveline, and cooling
• Tires and alignment — tire age matters more than tread on a coach
• Chassis electrical and charging — the vehicle's systems, not the house

Before a trip

Coaches are broken by sitting, not by driving. An RV pre-trip inspection four to six weeks out gives time to order anything it turns up, which is the difference between a fix and a cancelled trip.

We are not affiliated with Tiffin, Thor, Freightliner, Cummins, or Mercedes-Benz, and we are not an authorized service center for any of them. We service the chassis, engine, and drivetrain. House systems and generators are not something we take on.

What chassis is under a Tiffin diesel pusher?

Tiffin's Class A diesel coaches — Allegro Bus, Phaeton, and Zephyr — ride on the PowerGlide chassis platform, developed with Freightliner Custom Chassis. The engines are Cummins: an L9 in the Phaeton and Allegro Bus, and an X15 in the Zephyr. Engine and chassis details do shift by model year, so tell us the coach and year and we will confirm.

Is the Tiffin Wayfarer a diesel?

Yes. The Wayfarer is a Class C built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 4500XD cab chassis with the 2.0L four-cylinder turbodiesel. The Cahaba is the Class B, on a Sprinter 2500 with four-wheel drive and the 3.0L V6. Both are Sprinter service as far as the mechanical work goes.

Can you fit an Allegro Bus in your shop?

Yes — height, length, and lift capacity for a 40-foot coach. That is the question worth asking first, because a Class A commonly stands 12 to 13½ feet tall with the rooftop air conditioners and a standard service bay is built for 10 to 12.

Are you a Tiffin dealer or authorized service center?

No, and we have no affiliation with Tiffin, Thor, Freightliner, Cummins, or Mercedes-Benz. We are an independent diesel shop that works on the chassis and drivetrain under the coach.

Do you work on the interior, the slides, or the generator?

No. Chassis, engine, and drivetrain only. The house side stays with an RV service center, and we do not service generators at all.
