Not sure what you need?

Most people arrive with a symptom, not a part number. Here is where each one usually leads — and if none of them fit, call and describe it. We would rather talk it through than have you guess.

  • “Cranks but will not start”Fuel delivery, glow plugs, sensors, and injectors are the usual suspects.Diesel engine repair →
  • “Losing power, or the dash says derate”Most derates trace back to a loaded filter or a regeneration that never completes.DPF & emissions →
  • “Lost boost, or a whistle under load”Sticking vanes, actuator faults, and charge-air leaks all read as flat power.Turbocharger service →
  • “Running hot, or losing coolant”Radiators, water pumps, fan clutches, and EGR or oil coolers.Cooling system repair →
  • “Pulling to one side, or chewing tires”Alignment first — replacing tires without it just buys the problem again.Wheel alignment →
  • “Slipping, or harsh and late shifts”Diagnosis before teardown; not every shift complaint is an internal failure.Transmission service →
  • “Soft pedal, or air-brake warnings”Air and hydraulic systems, plus the steering and suspension around them.Brakes & suspension →

The full service list

Grouped by what part of the truck it touches. Anything with a link has a page of its own explaining how we approach it.

Diesel is our specialty, but we also service gasoline trucks, cars, SUVs, and vans, and we like working on diesel vans and cars too. If it has an engine, call 512-717-2777 and ask — the list above is not the limit.

For businesses

Running more than one truck?

Every service on this page is available to fleets on better terms — and a fleet account adds the things a business actually needs: scheduled maintenance, priority when a truck goes down, one invoice, and the option to never send a driver on a shop run.

FAQ

Common questions

  • What kinds of vehicles does Modern Diesel service?

Light-, medium-, and heavy-duty diesel trucks, the trailers behind them, Sprinter vans, import and European diesels, and diesel heavy equipment such as skid steers and excavators. We also service gasoline trucks, cars, SUVs, and vans. We do not service generators.

  • Do I need an appointment, or can I just bring the truck in?

Either works, but calling ahead at 512-717-2777 is faster for you — we can tell you whether a bay is open, what to bring, and whether the job is something we can start the same day. For a vehicle that is already down, call first so we know it is coming.

  • Can you handle everything, or will I get sent somewhere else?

The point of a full-service shop is that you do not get handed off. Engine, drivetrain, emissions, brakes, suspension, alignment, tires, A/C, and DOT inspections all happen here, with lifts, diagnostics, and parts on the shelf. If a job genuinely belongs somewhere specialised, we will tell you that plainly rather than learn on your truck.

  • Do you publish pricing for your services?

No, and any shop that publishes a flat number for diesel work is guessing. Diagnosis comes first, then you get an estimate before work starts. Fleet and multi-vehicle rates are set in a fleet service agreement — see service options and fleet programs.
