We don't do one-off inspections

Worth saying before anything else, because it saves you a phone call: we do not take standalone annual DOT inspections. We perform them for trucks and trailers we already maintain — under a fleet account or fleet maintenance support.

That isn't us being precious about the work. An inspection on a truck nobody has serviced in a year is not really an inspection — it is us handing you a repair list and a truck that still can't legally run, usually the week it was due. Done properly, the inspection is the last step of a maintenance cycle, not a separate errand: the truck comes in ahead of its due date, what would fail gets fixed while it is already on the lift, and the inspection confirms what we already know.

Comprehensive commercial inspections

Modern Diesel performs annual commercial truck and trailer safety inspections under the FMCSA / U.S. Department of Transportation annual inspection standard (49 CFR 396). A proper safety inspection is a bumper-to-bumper review of every major system, flagging worn or defective components before they put a truck out of service.

What we inspect

• Engine components and accessories
• Cab, safety equipment, and registration
• Suspension, steering, and front end
• Drive train; wheels, hubs, and axles
• Brake components and the braking system
• Frame, support, and body
• Lighting and electrical
• Tire condition and inflation

Trailers get their own annual inspection, separate from the tractor — and they are the units most often forgotten. See trailer repair. Not to be confused with the driver's daily DVIR, which is a different requirement under a different rule.

On a compliance calendar, not in your inbox

On a fleet account, inspections are scheduled before they come due — with enough margin that a failed brake or suspension item becomes a repair in the same visit rather than a second appointment and a truck sitting past due. Trailers are tracked separately from tractors, intervals are set by duty cycle rather than by guesswork, and with pickup and delivery your drivers never make the trip at all.
