Mobile Maintenance & Roadside Response in Austin, TX

Our trucks come to your yard for maintenance and to the shoulder when a unit is down — and the shop takes what the road can't finish. Fleet accounts first.

What changed in 2026

For most of 2026, Modern Diesel did not do this. We were a shop on N FM 973, open Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:30 PM, and this site said in plain words that we didn't come out to the road. Demand from the fleets we service changed that. As of November 2026 we run mobile maintenance, roadside response, and shop response, built around fleet accounts, with an after-hours line. If an older page or a directory told you we don't come out, it was right when it was written.

Three ways we respond

  • Mobile maintenance — scheduled service at your yard: preventive maintenance on the interval, inspections, fluids and filters, and the repairs that suit a service truck. The planned side, described in full on on-site fleet service.
  • Roadside response — a unit is down on the road or on a job site. We come to it, tell you whether it should move, fix what a service truck can fix where it sits, and get the rest to the shop.
  • Shop response — a down truck moved to the front of the line at the shop, with the lifts, diagnostics, and parts to finish the job. See truck-down service.

One account, one history, one invoice across all three. The truck that gets a roadside visit on Tuesday is the same truck in our records on Wednesday — the people who know it are the people who show up.

The after-hours line

Fleet accounts: the after-hours number is in your agreement paperwork. If you don't have it to hand, call fleet sales at 512-273-7351 during shop hours and we'll make sure you do.

What a service truck can do where the truck sits

  • No-starts, batteries, and charging faults
  • Air leaks, slow build, and brake adjustments
  • Lights, wiring, and the electrical faults that park a truck
  • Fuel, filter, and DEF-quality problems
  • Fault-code reads and derate diagnosis — so you know whether it should move
  • The tire and wheel work that doesn't need the shop's mounting equipment

What it can't do is lift the truck. Engine, transmission, and driveline work, full brake jobs, alignment, and anything that needs the unit in the air goes to the shop — and we say so on the call, not after the drive out. For fleet accounts, concierge pickup and delivery moves it without spending one of your drivers.

We don't run tow trucks. That hasn't changed. If a unit can't be repaired where it sits and can't be driven, you arrange the tow and we have a bay ready for it — we'll tell you what the tow driver needs to know.

Who it's for

Fleet accounts first. Roadside response and the after-hours line are built for businesses whose trucks we already maintain, and they're provided on the terms of the agreement — scheduling, coverage, and what counts as after hours are set there, not on this page. We don't publish a response time or a radius, because we'd rather tell you the real one on the phone than print one we can't keep every time.

Not under an agreement? Call the shop at 512-717-2777 during hours. If we can send a truck, we will; if we can't, we'll say so in the first minute so you can arrange a tow to 2900 N FM 973, Austin, TX 78725 without losing an hour.

Where we come to

Across the Greater Austin Area (Travis, Bastrop, Williamson, Hays) — the yards and corridors in our service area. Coverage for roadside and after-hours work is set in your fleet agreement rather than by a fixed radius.

Getting set up

Mobile maintenance and roadside response come with a fleet account; a fleet starts at two vehicles. Tell us what you run, where it's based, and how hard it works, and we'll scope the program, put the terms in writing, and get the after-hours line into your hands. Call fleet sales at 512-273-7351.

Common questions

Do you offer mobile diesel repair or roadside service in Austin?

Yes, as of November 2026. Modern Diesel runs mobile maintenance at your yard, roadside response when a truck is down, and shop response at 2900 N FM 973, built around fleet accounts, with an after-hours line. For most of 2026 we did not offer mobile or roadside work and this site said so plainly; demand from the fleets we service changed that. If you are not under a fleet agreement, call the shop during hours and we will tell you straight whether we can get a truck to you or whether a tow to the shop is the faster answer.

Is it 24/7?

We do not advertise 24/7, because we will not print a response time on a web page that we cannot keep every single time. What fleet accounts get is an after-hours line, revealed by the button on this page, monitored outside shop hours, and a response on the terms of the agreement. Shop hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM.

Do you tow?

No. We do not run tow trucks, and that has not changed. If a truck cannot be repaired where it sits and cannot be driven, you arrange the tow; we tell you what the driver needs to know and have a bay ready when it lands.

What can you fix at the roadside?

What a service truck can do: no-starts, batteries and charging faults, air leaks and brake adjustments, lights and wiring, fuel, filter and DEF-quality problems, and the fault-code reads and derate diagnosis that tell you whether the truck should move. Anything that needs the truck in the air, such as engine, transmission, driveline, a full brake job, or alignment, goes to the shop, and we say so on the call rather than after the drive out.

Is mobile maintenance the same as on-site fleet service?

Same trucks, same technicians. On-site fleet service is the scheduled program: preventive maintenance intervals, inspections, and repairs at your yard by appointment, described on its own page. This page is the whole picture: that planned work plus the roadside and after-hours side, which did not exist for most of 2026.

Do I need a fleet account?

For roadside response and the after-hours line, yes. That is who they are built for and who gets them first. A fleet starts at two vehicles. Without an account, call the shop during hours; if we can send a truck we will, and if we cannot we will say so in the first minute so you can arrange a tow without losing an hour.

Why is the after-hours number behind a button?

Because a phone number printed in plain text is on every robocall list within weeks, and this line exists for down trucks, not for spam. One click shows it; nothing else is asked of you. The number is not published anywhere else on the site.
